What you’ll do

Day 1 Bucharest- Transfagarasan – Fairy Tale Clay Castle – Sibiu

The day will start ~7:30 am, when I pick you up from your accommodation in Bucharest. After ~2h of driving, the first destination of the day will be at Curtea de Arges Monastery which is one of the most famous monasteries in Romania and a great attraction.

After visiting the monastery, we’ll continue straight to Transfagarasan Highway, Romania’s most spectacular and best known road and, thanks to an appearance on BBC Top Gear in 2009, now one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions.

On our drive to Transfagarasan Road, we will stop at Vidraru Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric dams in Europe. After this stop, we’ll continue our journey and we’ll have multiple stops to admire the beauty of nature along the Transfagarasan Road.

We’ll reach the road’s highest point at 2042 metres at Balea Lake. Here you’ll have free time to enjoy the amazing landscape of Fagaras Mountain and fill your lungs with fresh air.

Then, we’ll continue on Transfagarasan Road, hit the northern part of Fagaras Mountains and we’ll descend in Transylvania.

There, we’ll stop in the Valley of the Fairies and you’ll admire the Clay Castle, nestled in the foothills of the stunning Carpathian Mountains, set against a scenic backdrop.

In the afternoon, we’ll arrive in Sibiu, Romania’s most charming and romantic city. Since, the accommodation after this day will be in Sibiu, you’ll have a relaxed evening to admire the wonderful baroque architecture, the marvellous squares and the picturesque coloured houses which are just fascinating or just to enjoy a glass of wine at one of the many restaurants from the Great Square.

Day 2  Sibiu – Dracula’s Castle – Brasov – Bucharest

The day will start ~8:00 am, when I pick you up from your accommodation in Sibiu.

We’ll continue the adventure in Transylvania and we’ll drive for ~2h, after that we’ll arrive in Bran. You’ll visit the famous castle of Dracula (Vlad Tepes king), discover the legends, as well as the history of this place.

From Bran, we’ll head to Brașov, a wonderful city tucked away at the feet of the Carpathians. Brașov features some iconic landmarks, like the Black Church, the biggest Gothic church between Istanbul and Vienna, the narrowest street in Europe, the Rope Street, and a Hollywood-like sign on top of the Tâmpa Hill. Here you can have lunch/dinner at restaurants, try out Romanian traditional dishes or unwind with a coffee or wine in one of the city’s cosy café.

The last stint of our journey is a direct drive back to Bucharest, of about 2:30h.
